One year ago TODAY, Stewie came home to live with me, and my life hasn’t been the same since. Because he was found on the street unbanded, we have no way of knowing how old he is, much less his exact hatch day, but July 15 marks the 1-year anniversary of his being my little Stu-monster* so I’m lighting a single (virtual) candle to mark the occasion.
Happy one-year anniversary, Stewie!
Working with Stewie has been such an incredibly rewarding experience, I wish more people knew how great it feels to earn the trust of a formerly untame bird. It’s hard to believe how far we’ve come in a year. Here’s to hoping for many, many, many, many more years to come.
* technically I didn’t decide on his name for several weeks, but that’s neither here nor there.
Happy Birthday Stewie! I just got a late 40th birthday suprise–my family’s getting me a sun conure. They’d been considering a female, but when they say the male’s birthday was the same as mine, well . . . .
Congrats Michael! Sun conures are amazing creatures. So much personality in a tiny little package. Be sure to do lots of reading about how much attention they need, how loud they can be, how smart they are (ie, how much mental stimulation they require), how to prevent aggression, types of toys, a varied diet, etc, etc. Parrots are amazing – no cat or dog person could ever understand!
Please come back and update us on how you and your new sun conure are getting along! Congratulations again!
Happy Birthday Stewie, and congrats to your human too. It is not easy working with rescue animals and earn their trust (We have 3 of them), so great job both of you! I hope you have more fun together in the years to come.
Congrats from Threio and Dodo! Plus many, many and many more! The virtual candle was a superb choice, always careful of what gets in the air with a bird around!
Hi Stewie and friends
First of all happy birthday Stewie!
Then.. here the latest updates on All About Pets, the new social network from Britain’s pet charity The Blue Cross.
The site officially launches in August and we’ll let you know all the details before anyone else.
In the meantime we have something very special to tell you about next Monday. It’s top secret for the time being, but you’ll love it (and it involves pets that talk!). We’ll be in touch next Monday with more news.
Just a quick update on All About Pets:
The site’s attracted over 5,000 members already which is incredible given that we haven’t launched officially!
Latest articles include a review of the best tips on how to protect your 4 legs friend from the heat (a “hot” topic with summer finally starting) as well as a piece on the Animal Welfare Act, which was celebrating its first anniversary this year.
The latest news includes a story about a parrot who saved the lives of three people (!) and a dog owner who paid thousands of pounds after his pet was believed to be a dangerous breed. More to discover on http://www.allaboutpets.org.uk
We’ll be in touch next week with that special news!
Have a great week.
