After being MIA for a few weeks, WaynesParrotStuff.com is live on the Web again. Wayne updated his site to let everyone know that he is now working with The Golden Cockatoo to distribute his bottlebrush gyms. This will leave him free just to build his parrot playstands while the Golden Cockatoo deals with taking orders and fulfilling inventory.
Disclaimer: I see that The Golden Cockatoo also sells parrots. I’m really not a fan of pet stores selling any birds larger than cockatiels, so I have mixed feelings about recommending the store. Take that for whatever it’s worth to you. (Please visit Petfinder.com if you’re looking to add a bird to your family.)
See my previous post for my review of Wayne’s bottlebrush parrot stands.
I’ve seen reports of Wayne’s stands actually using harmful zinc fittings. Have you had a chance to inspect these for such?
Hi anonymous,
I haven’t heard that before and wasn’t able to find any reliable info to back it up. Just to be safe, I’ll remove the metal toy hangers attached to the end of the perches, which he sometimes plays with. Stewie doesn’t chew on any of the other hardware, so I’m not as concerned with those.
Thanks.
Wayne uses a mix of stainless steel and electroplated zinc fittings in the construction of his gyms. I’ve got two and couldn’t be happier with them. Zinc coating is an issue when the hardware is hot-dip galvanized, which leaves a lot of zinc on the fittings that can easily be chewed off by aggressive beaks. Electroplated zinc has a zinc-coating in the same way that a penny has a copper coating. The coating is bonded incredibly well to the material underneath — I wouldn’t dismiss the gyms based on that criteria alone.
